It’s been another great year here at Boston Solar! As we look back on this past year, we want to say thank you to the hundreds of homeowners and businesses who have trusted us with their solar installations in 2021, and highlight some of our shared successes.
We installed over 400 solar energy systems across 160 towns and cities in 2021, helping Massachusetts on its path to a clean energy future. Take a look at exciting stats from these projects:
The residential solar systems we installed this year ranged from 3 kW to 30.81 kW and commercial systems ranged from 5.94 kW to 190.18 kW. Our solar engineers continue to push the envelope when it comes to custom solar design with systems of all sizes and production capabilities. To date, we’ve installed over 4,800 solar installations!
Solar panels really do save on energy and this year’s stats prove it. Our residential solar customers have saved an estimated $472,800 on energy costs this year. That means those residential customers would save $16,548,000 in energy savings over the 25 year lifespan of their solar systems.
But the savings don’t stop there. We’ve also helped our customers take advantage of Massachusetts solar incentives, like the MA SMART solar incentive program, leading to more affordable solar installations and faster payback periods. In 2021, our residential customers saved a cumulative average of $394,000 through the MA state solar tax credit and received $2,181,578 in SMART solar incentive savings.
In 2021, we installed enough solar to produce 5,067,228 kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to 3,591 metric tons of carbon dioxide, or 7,916,923 pounds! That’s equal to:

We also had some other exciting events this year, including the sale of our first megawatt (MW) project, conducting pilot lead gen tests with our supply partner, Enphase, and installing several residential-style solar systems that qualified for the Low and Moderate Income Program.
