Q

How Boston Solar achieves a top quality solar panel installation

A

Boston Solar does solar different. There are state regulations in place that state a solar company MUST have a one-to-one ratio.  This means for every non-licensed electrician, a licensed electrician is required. There are many solar companies that do not do this and take the risk of being fined, so if you are looking at various companies, make sure you ask this question. Any solar energy company that chooses to ignore this regulation risks problems with the inspectors, and many companies do.

We typically have four person crews. We've heard of other solar companies with two person crews.  We believe that with additional crew members, we have better control over the quality of the work. This leads to a perfect installation every time, no question.  Not only that, we're able to complete residential installations in 1-5 days. On the day of installation, the crew comes to your house, introduces themselves and the lead electricians explains exactly how and what they will be doing. We always listen to the customer's opinion on how they would like the conduit to be run, based on how it will look. Boston Solar understands that aesthetics is important to all customers.

Once the installation is complete, Boston Solar arranges the final inspection by the town, and applies for permission to operate with the utility. Once we have these, the customer’s former electric meter is removed and replaced with a bidirectional meter that recognizes solar power.

Q

The Solar Conversation

A

When a customer considers going solar, they may have a lot of questions.  Our sales and outreach team is the first point of contact.  They will take a look at your home or business on Google maps while on the phone and ask you questions.  For example, if we notice trees blocking your solar access, we’ll ask you if you’ve considered cutting them down.  Or, if your main roof faces north, if you would consider a ground mount system.   It has to be the right solution for the customer.

Once you’ve had an initial conversation, an appointment is set with one of our Solar Consultants.  This Solar Consultant will visit your home or business and talk to you about the solutions we offer. He or she will also walk around your house with you noticing anything that may not give you 100% exposure and discuss various options for your home and situation.  After this initial visit, the Solar Consultant will confer with a design engineer. The two discuss your home, solar access and panel options. Within 72 hours, the Solar Consultant will return with a proposal and picture of how the solar panels will be displayed on your roof.

Boston Solar wants the decision process of a solar system to be extremely informative and timely.

Q

Solar Plans and Permits

A

Boston Solar will set up a site visit with the home owner and a technician who will check roof quality, review electrical equipment, and house structure. The technician will then compile a site plan that is shared with the customer.

Boston Solar takes care of all permitting and utility documentation while keeping you informed throughout the process. Before an installation is scheduled, a structural engineer takes a final look at the system, analyzes and approves.

Q

What is the Boston Solar customer experience and support philosophy?

A

Customer experience and support is at the heart of Boston Solar's mission. Each of our team members live by a strong customer ethic. Boston Solar is the right size company with the right priorities. Every customer is #1.  We want to stay connected to our customers, even when the installation is complete.

We want our customers to share this positive experience with their neighbors, family and friends. A referral from a neighbor takes the mystery out of solar. Neighbors can say, “Look at my roof, look at my bill!” If you had a great experience and want to share it, click here.

Q

What would surprise people about customer support for solar panel installations?

A

Not every provider shares our approach in simplifying the process. We hear complaints that it’s too difficult or complicated. Boston Solar does not outsource sales or installation, and we emphasize customer support, for a simpler, unified process.
