Earth Day is coming up! The holiday, which is celebrated every year on April 22, serves as both a celebration of the earth’s beauty and a reminder to protect the planet we all call home.
This year’s Earth Day theme is to Invest in Our Planet. All of us—individuals, businesses, and government—must take action to invest in a sustainable future here on earth. At Boston Solar, we’re proud to Invest in Our Planet every day by helping homeowners and businesses make the switch to clean, renewable solar power.
To help our community celebrate Earth Day 2022, we’ve put together a list of actionable steps you can take to Invest in Our Planet:
The phrase “think globally, act locally” embodies what Earth Day is all about—and encourages us to make the improvements we want to see on a global scale in our own local communities. Cleaning up a local park or neighborhood is a great way to make a difference that encourages surrounding communities to do the same. Join an organized cleanup or just grab a trash bag and spend a few hours picking up trash in a local park.
Personal vehicles are a major contributor to climate change, in addition to being a major source of air pollution. Here in the United States, cars and trucks amount to almost one-fifth of all emissions. Taking your car off the road for just one day can make a difference and may inspire you to seek alternative transportation more often! Try walking, riding your bike, or using public transportation to get where you need to go on Earth Day.
We live in a fast-paced world full of distractions, and a lot of us spend more time inside watching Netflix or scrolling through Instagram than we do out in the natural environment. To combat this, put down your phone this Earth Day and take some time to reconnect with nature. Go for a hike (check out some of our favorite New England hikes and trails here), take a walk on the beach, stay up late to stargaze—anything that gets you outside!
Our homes are one of the largest sources of energy waste. You can take action with small steps, like turning off the lights when you leave a room and making sure all the windows are closed when you run the air conditioning. If you have the time and resources, consider more sustainable steps, like installing better insulation or switching to all-electric heating and cooling.
Making the switch to solar energy is one of the best ways to reduce your impact on the environment and help create a sustainable future. Solar panels and solar batteries let you produce and store your own clean electricity, reducing demand for fossil fuels.
