If You’ve Read Any Solar News in the past 24 Hours…..
What you’ll see scattered across “front pages” is a 95% growth in the industry in 2016. That is massive growth for the solar industry. Along with the national solar growth, Boston Solar has also seen major growth in the past year and completed a huge milestone, installing 3,000 projects by the end of 2016, which puts Boston Solar well over 3,000 as of today.
Boston Solar Celebrates a Growth Milestone: Three Thousand Solar Panel Installation Projects in Five Years
Boston Solar executives recently got together to discuss an important growth milestone. The company has completed over three thousand solar panel installation projects in five years. CEO & Co-Founder, Daniel Mello Guimarães, pointed out the significance of these numbers. “This is a testament to our team’s ability to perform well. It means we are a professional installation company. Most solar providers outsource their installation teams, we do not. What we accomplished takes some companies upwards of 10 years. Our goal is to provide the best customer experience and flawless installations, and we are accomplishing that goal,” he states. The #1 thing that can get in the way of a perfectly functioning solar system is a faulty solar panel installation, which is why the team maintains a sharp focus on the process.
Getting Down to Business
While most of the 3,000+ installations are residential customers, the team anticipates the positive customer experience, cost savings, and desire to support clean energy will continue to roll over to more business customers. It is Boston Solar’s goal to take its message to more commercial building owners in 2017. If you own a commercial building, and you need electricity, you are a candidate. Solar is highly incentivized by the government, particularly in Massachusetts, where Boston Solar is based. Companies can reinvest the money that they save by using solar. Also, going green can be a great avenue for attracting new talent while reducing a company’s carbon footprint.
The Right Climate for Solar Growth
A desire to do right by its customers, coupled with a favorable climate for solar business, helped Boston Solar move forward quickly and successfully in the past five years. Each team member is passionate about providing the best possible customer experience. Smart partner relationships with companies such as SunPower contribute to an ability to focus on quality. Choosing to internalize the customer experience is also a large part of what has driven Boston Solar’s growth. It has successfully transitioned to handling its own sales process, and has developed a unique ability to communicate effectively with customers while simplifying their adoption of solar.
Why Massachusetts Homeowners Love Solar Energy
As we all know, the sun does not shine in Massachusetts every day. But that doesn’t stop its residents from wanting to power their homes with solar – and they do so very successfully. The Commonwealth has a strong mandate toward energy efficiency and offers up to $1,000 tax credit in addition to the 30% federal tax credit. Not only that, but the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) also offers Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) which are paid out quarterly. Our blog post “What are SRECs?” explains what these are and how they are paid out in detail.
Michele Buchanan, Boston Solar’s Director of Operations and Administration states, “Massachusetts homeowners not only want to save money while reducing their carbon footprint, but they are incentivized to do so.”
“Homes and businesses that go solar can also look forward to insulating their finances from the rising cost of electricity. The price of electricity in Massachusetts is high and if history repeats itself, it may continue to raise. Owning a solar system on your home or business means you never have to worry about that rising cost as you’ll produce your own electricity,” adds Natalie Holtgrefe, Director of Marketing at Boston Solar.
How Solar Brought a Successful International Banker from London to Boston
Daniel Mello Guimarães was a financier in Europe. He learned a lot about different business models and was selling assets that were in fact performing well. However, at the end of his average 140-hour work week (that’s 20 hours a day, 7 days a week) he didn’t feel fulfilled. His best friend from college, and Boston Solar co-founder, Romain Strecker, convinced Daniel that solar was his future, and that future was in Massachusetts.
Daniel also credits his faith in solar energy with the influence of the book Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution–and How It Can Renew America by Thomas Friedman. It helped him see that he could earn his living while addressing mega-trends in a positive way.
3,000+ successful solar panel installations later, Daniel remains focused on the customer experience and the value Boston Solar provides. One of the things that makes him proud is seeing customers become solar ambassadors, and share their experience with friends and neighbors. To express appreciation for referrals, Boston Solar offers customers a substantial cash reward for the favor. There is also an app to make the process easier. Check it out here.
What Happens Next?
Boston Solar plans to continue to provide the best products, the best service, and the best warranties all with competitive and fair pricing.
Massachusetts can look forward to the company placing more focus on helping businesses realize the benefits of solar. Boston Solar feels that through helping companies save money, it benefits their employees, customers, and communities. It’s a holistic approach.
When considering the future, Daniel states, “Knowing where to put our focus has been critical to our success. We must evolve, adapt, and overcome challenges. Our background helps us take in a lot of data and see into the future in a way that will keep the company well-structured and strong. This in turn helps our customers, our employees, our partners, and our environment.”
