Another Trip Around the Sun — Boston Solar’s 2019 Highlights

Dec. 16, 2019

It has been another illuminating year here at Boston Solar, and we are still proud to be the premier Massachusetts based solar installer serving the needs of homeowners and business owners throughout the state. Before the craziness of the holidays, and before a new year begins, we wanted to take a moment and reflect on the impact our solar installations have had on our community.

Solar in the Bay State

Think globally, but act locally. Sure, solar energy helps the global environment by reducing the carbon emissions that cause the negative effects of climate change, but it starts right here in our local community. Here’s what we’ve been able to do this year:

Customers and businesses served: 275

Towns served this year: 135

Total kW installed: 3,217.023 kW

Non-profits, churches, schools, and community organizations served:

  • East Congregational Church in Milton

  • St. Mary & St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Scituate

  • Temple Reyim in Auburndale

2019 Solar Energy Production & Savings

Solar Energy Systems Size and Production:

Average system size: 11.827 kW

Largest Solar PV System size: 180.56 kW

Smallest Solar PV System size: 1.92 kW

Estimated Total Production for First Year of Production: 3,558,536 kWh

3,558,536 kWh offsets 2,516 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions!  That’s the equivalent of taking 534 cars off the road for 1 year, 5,836 barrels of oils consumed and carbon sequestered by 42,000 trees!

Estimated kWh Production

10 years Production kWh = 32,026,824

20 years Production kWh = 53,378,040

53,378,040 kWh offsets 37,746 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. That’s taking 8,000 cars off the road for a year, 87,000 barrels of oil not consumed and carbon sequestered by 624,000 trees!

Estimated Solar Savings

Total Saved in First Year = $803,162

Total Saved over 10 Years = $7,228,454

Total Saved over 20 Years = $12,047,424

Total Solar Incentives Earned

Federal Investment Solar Tax Credit (ITC) = $3,203,991

MA Tax Credit @ $1000 per install = $275,000

SMART Solar Incentive Program (based on average system size) = $2,293,225

Total incentives earned in 2019: ITC+ MA Tax credit + SMART = $5,772,216

Serving Brews and Talking Solar Breakthroughs

Who doesn’t love to have a drink while talking about solar energy? We enjoy both. Last year, we bought 150 beers and ciders for #MakeYourDays events, where we will buy you a drink while we answer all of your questions about renewable energy and solar panels, like “Why are solar panels good for the environment?” and “How does the Mass SMART Solar Incentive program work?”

If you want to chat up Ben from Boston Solar, just follow us on Twitter or Instagram and look for our tag, #wheresben.

But we don’t need to have a drink in hand to talk about solar — we drove 11,900 miles to events across Massachusetts this past year, speaking at events from the Northampton Music Fest to the Swampscott Farmer's Market and the Boston Green Fest to further inform our friends and neighbors on SMART solar incentives for homeowners.

What’s New at Boston Solar?

We’ve also added a few new features to our bag of tricks this year. We have expanded our solar battery capabilities, and partnered with other trusted contractors throughout the state to offer even more ways for homeowners and business owners to reduce their carbon footprint, lower greenhouse gases and energy costs, and maximize their solar panel’s environmental impact:

All of this, on top of our unmatched Solar Production Guarantee, makes Boston Solar the number one Massachusetts based solar contractor. Whether you are looking for solar panels as a Boston homeowner, are hoping to save on your commercial solar installation through Massachusetts commercial solar incentives, or are simply looking to gain a little more information about how solar panels help the environment, Boston Solar is your go-to resource for all of your solar needs.
