Top 6 Fall Activities in Massachusetts

There are many things to love about living in Massachusetts, especially when it comes to enjoying fall activities. As any true New Englander will tell you, Massachusetts has some of the best fall activities in the country, from hiking and leaf peeping to apple picking and cider donut eating.

If you’re looking for some fun New England fall activities to enjoy this season, you’re in the right place. We’ve rounded up six of our favorite fall things to do near Boston in 2022:

1. Pick Your Own Fresh Apples at a Local Massachusetts Orchard

A fall in Massachusetts is not complete without a trip to an apple orchard. There are several pick-your-own apple orchards in Massachusetts. Here are some of our favorites:

Honey Pot Hill Orchards
Shelburne Farm
Carlson Orchards

After you fill a bag with apples, make sure you grab a hot apple cider donut to enjoy on your ride home!

2. Take a Day Trip to Salem

No place screams fall quite like Salem, Massachusetts. It’s the perfect place for a Massachusetts day trip and you can even take the ferry from Boston! Start your day with some haunted history by visiting the Salem Witch House, the House of the Seven Gables, and the Salem Witch Trials Memorial and cemetery. Then, grab lunch at one of the many amazing restaurants in Salem and spend some time wandering around the witchy gift shops and apothecaries.

3. Go Leaf Peeping in the Mountains

If you’re looking for a fun and sustainable way to spend a fall day in Massachusetts, there’s no better activity than leaf peeping. Some of the best views of fall foliage in New England can be found in Massachusetts, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the changing leaves—you could go hiking in the Berkshires or take a leisurely drive along Route 6A!

4. Get Lost in a Corn Maze

A corn maze is a fun way to spend a fall day in Massachusetts. The Davis Mega Maze is one of the best corn mazes in Massachusetts and is a can’t-miss fall activity near you. The maze offers seven intensity levels and is full of hidden games and surprises to enjoy while you solve the puzzle. Spend an hour or an entire day exploring the hidden wonders of this massive corn maze!

5. Make Your Own Halloween Costume

If you want to celebrate spooky season sustainably, making your own Halloween costume is a great way to do it. If you can’t sew, don’t worry! Hit up your local thrift store to find all the pieces you need for a great costume without buying anything brand-new. The environment will thank you for shopping second-hand and you’ll get to show off your creative costume without having to worry about something else showing up to the party wearing the same thing.

6. Learn About Renewable Energy in Massachusetts

Solar power might not be the first thing on your mind when the days are getting shorter and the sun is starting to slip away, but fall is actually a great time to install residential solar panels in Massachusetts. If you’ve been thinking about going solar, head to your favorite local coffee shop with your laptop, grab a pumpkin spice latte, and do some research to find out whether solar panels make sense for your home.
