5 Reasons to Go Solar in the Spring

There’s never a bad time to go solar, but some seasons are preferable to others, and spring is one of the best!

Here are five reasons why you should consider installing solar panels this spring:

1. Save on Summer Electricity Bills

Many people start to think about solar panel installation in Massachusetts during the summer when their AC is running nonstop and electricity bills are rising. In order to combat those costs with solar power, though, you need to make sure your system is installed before the summer heat sets in.

By scheduling solar panel installation during the early spring, you can have your system up and running by summer, allowing you to run your AC on solar power and save money on high summer electricity bills.

2. Take Advantage of the Long Summer Days

Solar panels generate the most electricity during the summer when the days are longer and there’s more solar energy to be captured. By going solar during the spring, you can be ready to take advantage of the long summer days.

Your solar panels will likely generate more electricity than you need during the summer months. Thanks to net metering, you can trade that extra electricity to your utility in exchange for a credit, which can then be used to pay for any grid electricity you may need to buy during the winter when your solar panels are generating less electricity.

3. Claim the 26% Solar Tax Credit Before it’s Reduced

By taking advantage of the federal solar tax credit in 2022, you can reduce your federal tax liability by 26% of your total solar installation costs. This incentive isn’t permanent, however. To get the 26% credit, your solar system must be fully installed and turned on by December 31, 2022. After that, the solar tax credit will be reduced to 22% in 2023 and then eliminated entirely for homeowners in 2024.

To make sure you qualify for the highest solar tax credit possible, get your solar installation started ASAP!

4. Start Earning Solar Incentives ASAP

The sooner you install solar panels in Massachusetts, the sooner you’ll be eligible for solar incentives, including:

SMART, one of the best solar incentives in Massachusetts, is on a declining block schedule. Participants receive an incentive amount based on the block they fall into. As the blocks fill up, they are closed off and newer participants receive lower incentives. The sooner you install solar panels, the higher your SMART incentive will be!

5. Get Ahead of Long Solar Lead Times

When summer rolls around and everyone starts thinking about renewable energy, solar companies in Massachusetts get bombarded with phone calls. This can create extra-long lead times and leave you waiting a long time for your solar panel installation. By scheduling a solar consultation in the spring, you can get ahead of the rush and have your solar panels installed faster.
