Boston Solar Provides Solar Panel System to the Woburn Boys and Girls Club

Woburn, Massachusetts – September 7, 2017 – Boston Solar, a leading Massachusetts solar contractor and installer, announced today that it has provided a 103 kilowatt (kW) solar panel system to the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, Massachusetts via a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

The 100kW solar system atop the new James L McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn.

A solar PPA is a financial agreement between a developer/financier and host customer facilitates design, permitting, financing and installation of a solar energy system on a customer’s property at little to no cost. The contractor owns the system, typically for 10-20 years, and sells the generated electricity to the customer at a lower rate than a utility. At the end of the contract, the customer can extend the PPA, remove the system or purchase the system.

Boston Solar has been a longtime supporter the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn.  When the Club made the decision to build a new facility, Boston Solar wanted to help by offsetting their electricity bills that were upwards of $5,000 per month.  Boston Solar is the PPA provider and now owns the system atop their new facility.  In turn, the Club will pay an extremely reduced rate for electricity for 10 years.

Boston Solar is committed to philanthropic partnerships and giving back to the local community,” said Natalie Holtgrefe, Director of Marketing at Boston Solar. “The opportunity to provide a reduced electricity rate for the Club will save them $300,000 over 25 years.  This means the Club will have more money to put back into the member children and developmental programs.”

“Boston Solar has always supported us in event sponsorships, donations for referral installations and providing a discount to friends and family of the Club and has been an exceptional teammate throughout our Building Futures Campaign and construction project,” stated Julie A. Gage, Executive Director at the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn. “When they offered the opportunity to save on electricity costs, we were overjoyed. It is one of our largest overheads and to have that offset monthly will help us tremendously.  We are proud to be a partner of this great company.

After months of construction, the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn is complete.  They will have a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, September 9th at 9 am.  The public is welcome to attend this event.  If interested, please RSVP to Julie A. Gage, Executive Director, at j.gage@bgcwoburn.org
