Boston Solar Donates Solar System to Frates Family

Being "plugged in"

Our current technology curve is exponential, with new products and inventions created every single day. We have tons of new gadgets for personal entertainment and increases in medical technology have allowed people to overcome life’s most difficult challenges. With new technology comes a need for more energy. We are constantly plugged in, whether it is our cell phones, tablets, laptops, TV’s, gaming systems, etc. The list goes on and on. However, for some people remaining plugged in is a necessity. For patients relying on medical systems around-the-clock, electricity bills can become outrageous. Such is the case for Pete Frates, the man who inspired the well-known ice bucket challenge that went viral via social media in 2015.

Boston Solar donates a solar system to the Frates family

Today, Boston Solar was recognized on CBS Boston for alleviating some of the financial burden for the Frates family. Pete Frates, from Beverly, MA, was diagnosed with ALS, and as his condition continued to worsen, his family’s electric bill began to skyrocket. Their bill had climbed from $100 to $1000 per month. Boston Solar generously donated a $60,000 solar system to the Frates household, allowing their bill to become zero.

There are many families like the Frates family, relying on fossil fuels to power their homes. This is costly and can also have detrimental impacts on the environment. Even homes that do not have to power medical systems use a significant amount of energy. With plummeting costs of solar technology along with various state and federal government incentives, solar has become an option for more homeowners and businesses. By harnessing the sun’s energy, homeowners are able to power their homes and significantly reduce or eliminate their electricity bills altogether. Transitioning to a world more reliant on renewable energy can have many positive impacts for both individual customers as well as the world as a whole. Companies like Boston Solar make an effort to be more than just a solar provider. Boston Solar emphasizes the importance of connecting with customers and truly thinking about what is best for them. Solar might not be right for everyone, but in the case of the Frates family and many others, technology has allowed them to focus on the more important things in life, like family, instead of worrying about energy use and paying the bills.
